We address the problem of packet detection in the context of the WiMedia ECMA 368 standard. The proposed solution uses a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT), which accounts for the dispersive nature of ultrawideband (UWB) signals, and efficiently combines signals belonging to different frequency-hopping bands. A multiple-dwell strategy is investigated to enhance performance while keeping limited complexity. Particular care is devoted to the optimization of the multiple-dwell procedure (dwell durations and thresholds) and to a realistic assessment of the algorithm performance. Since available results from the literature are not fully applicable, a suitable framework is developed where performance is evaluated in terms of the probability of incorrect acquisition. Double dwells are identified as the best solution. The algorithm behavior is also tested under realistic channel conditions and typical receiver impairments.

Abstract
The algorithm behavior is also tested under realistic channel conditions and typical receiver impairments.Pubblicazioni consigliate
