Modulational instability and complex dynamics of confined matter-wave solitons were studied. The dynamical process of soliton train formation induced by modulational instability was simulated in the framework of time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a three-body dissipative term. It was found that during the motion of the soliton train in an axial harmonic potential the number of solitonic peaks changed in time and the density of the individual peaks showed an intermittent behavior.

Abstract
