Evoluzione di un betuleto su calcare in Valle Grana (Alpi Cozie meridionali)

This paper deals with the establishment of a permanent study area of a second growth birch stand in Alpi Cozie (Piemonte) - Italy. Through phytosociological releves which were extended to the adjacent primary mixed birch stand, hypotheses were made on the future evolution of this mixed stand, that is growing into an oak one. first dendroecological inventories showed that the invasion of the prairie by birch and larch had started at the beginning of the fourties.
