It is shown here that the Fredholm method can be generalized to the solution of an integral equation relating the analytic continuation of the Bloch Green's function at different energies; by this equation the analytic continuation of the S-matrix for cut-off potentials can be obtained. The analytical properties of the Fredholm determinant of our problem are pointed out, and the equivalent of the Jost and Pais relation is deduced. © 1973 Società Italiana di Fisica.
