Closed formulas for the error of staggered and simultaneous procedures are derived and compared. Conditions of global convergence are determined. It is shown that in some cases a complicated condition for stability of the staggered scheme can be replaced by a simpler one: the simultaneous stability condition for one iteration step. A counterexample for global convergence of the staggered method with a constant number of iterations, is presented. © 1994.

Abstract
