Abstract

The formation of B. schlosseri tunic was considered in vivo and with histological observations, in colonies experimentally deprived of tunic. The role of zooid epidermis during regeneration was also evaluated. Considerable modifications of the epidermal cells, which present the cytoplasm filled with endoplasmic reticulum vesicles secreting material, were found. The latter segregates in the apical cell portion and subsequently discharges with the hole apex into the tunic.
