Medical and surgery therapy of patients suffering from Meniere's disease has up until now focused on vertigo and success has always been evaluated according to this parameters. Recent studies have shown a great interest in the hearing, which tends to get worse even in the absence of vertigo. Our long-term review of 32 patients who underwent ultrasonic of posterior labyrinth has shown that the best surgical results are to be obtained in the early stages of illness. This is true not only as regards the vertigo, but also for hearing. The effects of high frequency ultra sound on the inner ear structures after irradiation of the lateral semicircular canal are discussed and Stable's experimental data are confirmed from a clinical point of view.

Abstract
Medical and surgery therapy of patients suffering from Meniere's disease has up until now focused on vertigo and success has always been evaluated according to this parameters. Recent studies have shown a great interest in the hearing, which tends to get worse even in the absence of vertigo. Our long-term review of 32 patients who underwent ultrasonic of posterior labyrinth has shown that the best surgical results are to be obtained in the early stages of illness. This is true not only as regards the vertigo, but also for hearing. The effects of high frequency ultra sound on the inner ear structures after irradiation of the lateral semicircular canal are discussed and Stable's experimental data are confirmed from a clinical point of view.Pubblicazioni consigliate
