The concentrations of cefuroxime were determined in middle ear effusions of seven patients with chronic purulent otitis media. Cefuroxime was administrated at doses of 750 mg im every 8 h for 6-8 days, and samples of middle ear fluid and serum were collected 2 h after administration. Levels reached by cefuroxime in chronic middle ear effusions were above the MICs for bacteria commonly responsible for otitis media. © 1982, by The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
