An anlysis is made of the hygienic-sanitary situation of goat and sheep farming in Italy on the basis of the data provided by the Agencies and Organizations working in this field. The survey revealed the need for the development of technical assistance to farmers, the co-ordination between structures, scientific research, standardization of data collection and circulation of information. A rank of priority of the measures to be taken is proposed
