The research led to the construction of an integrated process, which could reorganise information necessary for an appropriate strategy of intervention, starting from addressed preliminary investigation on the original structure. The information is organized exploring different aspects related to the seismic risk: materials, structural types, observed damage mechanisms, effectiveness of retrofitting techniques, durability, etc. A selection of modern and innovative techniques is considered with focus on possible advantages and disadvantages regarding compatibility and durability with original materials. The structured catalogue created within the NIKER project provides the technical data to define the behaviour of the structure, and to design the minimum required intervention, in relation to the target performance. The repair techniques are analysed on the base of the hierarchy from the single panel or structural elements, to the whole structure. Where available, information about possible mistakes, problems or documented seismic performances is given.
