Here are described in detail the rules for transcribing musical texts written in conventional notation in a notation suitable for recognition, storage and processing by digital computers. The transcription is effected in two different but contiguous stages: the first, known as the external stage, is user‐oriented; the second, known as the internal stage, is computer‐oriented. Such a system permits the insertion, at any point in the transcription and whenever desired, of instructions or data which allow a continuous interaction between user and programs utilising the transcription. It thus renders the latter open to future development.

Abstract
Here are described in detail the rules for transcribing musical texts written in conventional notation in a notation suitable for recognition, storage and processing by digital computers. The transcription is effected in two different but contiguous stages: the first, known as the external stage, is user‐oriented; the second, known as the internal stage, is computer‐oriented. Such a system permits the insertion, at any point in the transcription and whenever desired, of instructions or data which allow a continuous interaction between user and programs utilising the transcription. It thus renders the latter open to future development.Pubblicazioni consigliate
