At the end of the 18th century, scientists were engaged in experimenting on electricity. Scholars also began to investigate new research areas. One of these scholars was the Italian physician Luigi Aloisio Galvani (1737–1798), a professor of medicine at the University of Bologna. in 1790 he made his most famous observation, i.e., that the dissected leg of a dead frog kicked as if it were alive when touched with a metal scalpel bearing a charge.

Abstract
