Measures of Working Memory (WM) have been associated with high order cognitive tasks (Engle et al., 1999); A main differentiation within WM is that between passive and active tasks (Cornoldi & Vecchi, 2003). Passive tasks requiring only the maintenance of information and the active tasks also requiring elaboration. The relationship between WM and intelligence may concern active processes that require the central executive (Lanfranchi, Cornoldi, & Vianello, 2004). However, ADHD children, mayperform well on fluid intelligence measures and at the same time perform quite poorly on active WM tasks.
