Outstanding achievements delivered latterly by Saudi policies on higher education have placed the Kingdom in a unique and challenging position in the worldwide scenario of competition for excellence in education. Within the framework of a New Saudi Educational Renaissance, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is building, at its own pace, its own way to a knowledge-based society. This study introduces some facts and figures on the recent developments of Saudi Arabian higher education policies, and suggests that the kingdom is preparing to play a very interesting role in the international competition for excellence in education.
