We provide evidence that the anti-epileptogenic effect is mediated by an increase in neuronogenesis rather then by prevention of ongoing damage. Very little positive results can be found in the literature with reference to successful prevention of epileptogenesis and this is the first evidence of a disease-modifying effect based on a “treatment” of endogenous neurogenesis by neurotrophic factors.
