Forest road network is one of the key elements to guarantee an effective management of forest areas. In this work, the construction costs for new forest roads in two different area of the alpine region of Italy are discussed. The main road standards and the construction costs of new roads in the period 2007-2013 are categorized by the terrain gradient in which the roads are constructed. Results show a different approach in terms of construction and cost between the two areas, mainly depending on the technicians choice and characteristics of the terrain and soil.
