This study discusses how the tradition of dramatic texts can record the dynamics and the inner tensions of the concept of ‘authorship’, as this essay engages with a ‘case study’, focusing on a work by Carlo Goldoni, that is Il padre di famiglia. These inner tensions run through and actually reveal the ‘texture’ hidden in the very fibers of the ever-present metamorphism which is typical of dramatic ‘texts’ (that is, may-be the only type of texts where the glorious ex metaphor of the text as texture can still shine); moreover, such tensions shed light on the thick weaving of debts and credits that are intertwined in the spatial and temporal ‘crossings’ that take place in a dramatic text.
