On the basis of a previous article published in the journal on the immune persistence after hepatitis B vaccination in infancy, I discuss why this is a fact and not a fancy. Immune memory after primary series was widely demonstrated by the prompt response to booster dose and by the proliferation of T cells with secretion of IFNγ. In a large cohort of medical students, 79% of subjects were positive for anti-HBs antibodies, and only 1.9% of subjects with immunological signs of past hepatitis B infection. To prevent a severe disease as hepatitis B it is very important that the majority of population is vaccinated, above all if employed in health care, being the most effective weapon to fight the disease, still widespread in the world.

Abstract
On the basis of a previous article published in the journal on the immune persistence after hepatitis B vaccination in infancy, I discuss why this is a fact and not a fancy. Immune memory after primary series was widely demonstrated by the prompt response to booster dose and by the proliferation of T cells with secretion of IFNγ. In a large cohort of medical students, 79% of subjects were positive for anti-HBs antibodies, and only 1.9% of subjects with immunological signs of past hepatitis B infection. To prevent a severe disease as hepatitis B it is very important that the majority of population is vaccinated, above all if employed in health care, being the most effective weapon to fight the disease, still widespread in the world.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
