Translation’s poetic space represents in Mario Luzi’s poetic career a laboratory for developing his own style and testing new poetic instruments. This article aims to demon- strate this thesis by putting in relationship some of Luzi’s statements on translation and some of his ‘translation practices’. In this way, we could actually analyze if, how and how many of his statements correspond or not to truth. The experiment will be conducted using the translations made by Luzi on poems by Racine and Mallarmé. These considerations will also serve as guidelines in the critical analysis of some aspects of Luzi’s original composi- tions. This critical perspective will nally open to the relationship between the theory and practice of translation in the frame of Luzi’s whole poetical production.
