Among diverse families, gay and lesbian heading stepfamilies have to cope with multiple challenges and, in particular way, they have to mourn previous belongings and construct a new family identity. Vicissitudes of these processes seem related in particular way to contextual losses experienced by children and parents. Therapeutic work aims to create a management context of ambiguous losses. In the same way, it aims to facilitate a mastery of emotional processes related to past, present and future family issues. To cope with identity multiplicity seems to be a fundamental goal for clinical interventions with diverse families.
