The present essay aims to contribute to the debate on the qualifiability as sciences of the confessional disciplines, in particular theology and canon law. The passage from Austrian jurisiditionalism to postunitarian liberal separatism allows us to understand the history of the current Italian system of studies, which excludes theology from them hosting canon law in academic courses.
