This is a reappraisal of Agnes Arber's work as morphologist as well as a historian of early modern botany. It argues that her anti-Darwinian stance, while in tune with the times at the beginning of her career, increasingly cut her off from academia. Arber's scientific tenets, therefore, not her gender, were the main reasons for her late marginality despite the undeniable qualities of her morphological studies.
