A technique to distributedly evaluate the perturbation-induced effective refractive index variation on the higher order modes of a few-mode fiber is presented. The technique is based on spectral correlation analysis and has been experimentally validated for the LP 01 and LP 11 modes of a 6-modes few-mode fiber.

Abstract
