This paper focuses on the archaeometric analysis of the coarse ware production of the proto-urban settlement of Frattesina to define the main technological characteristics. A depth examination mainly based on the petrographic analysis, and the comparison with recent sedimentological and geomorphological data, allowed to substantiate what is known so far and to recognize new Petrofabrics. On the basis of abundance, composition and textural features of inclusions/temper and on the characteristics of the matrix and pores, it was possible to differentiate a foremost local production (i.e. Petrofabrics A, B, C, E and F) from some external source samples (FrSUP, C14 and H30 coming from Berica and Euganean areas, and from eastern part of palaeo Adige basin, east of Monselice, respectively). Overall, such information highlights the extraordinary attractive role of the settlement in terms of craft production and exchange: a real emporium where the supply, demand, production and exchange of products of various origin, typology and technology took place between people and/or craftsmen and/or merchants of different geographical extraction, whose presence is also attested by coarse ware in typological and technological terms.
