Abstract

The global economy is often described as deterritorialized: the territories would be destined to margins, in favour of intangible transactions, involving financial and digital flows. Immateriality, especially that of finance and the world wide web, seems to constitute our current image of the world. However, such a conclusion shouldn’t be absolutized. The global economy itself pays special attention to the city, as a strategic dimension of economic dynamics. And also the city manifests a bottom-up dynamism that makes it a surprising player of international political processes.
