The judgment of the Regional Administrative Court for the Italian Region of Lazio, of May 5th 2014, provides an opportunity to retrace the main steps towards the registration of the PGI “Piadina/Piada Romagnola IGP”. The Production Specification is the result of a compromise between conflicting needs: a straightforward document that lacks an overall vision of the possible arising issues. Thus, a Company challenged the Specification (and all the related acts) since it had been producing and selling Piadina Romagnola for over 25 years, having its premises outside the limited geographical area. While analyzing the Judge’s legal reasoning, the paper will come to refute the Court’s conclusions, by several profiles.
