Aristotele, Elenchi sofistici. Introduzione, traduzione e commento

Gino SORIO Sophistical Elenchoi. Introduction, translation and commentary Abstract This doctorate thesis is a translation, with an introduction and notes, of the aristotelian Sophistical elenchoi. The translation aims to be as faithful as possible, retaining all the difficulties of the text and trying to avoid any possible interpretation, helping the readers to guess easily the correspondent greek text. The commentary deals with the whole text and all its problems. I mostly examined similar works rather than partial essays, not related to the text as a whole. Many ancient commentators were used, the greek ones (the Anonymous and Ps. Alexander) and those of the Middle Age, and the modern scholars as well. This is a work of historiography, aiming particularly at Aristoteles' thought, at his concept of logic, of language, of knowledge, of sophist, and at his idea of the relation between logic and history. An index of the main greek words ends this thesis.

Esposizione riassuntiva La dissertazione di dottorato consiste in una traduzione, con introduzione e commento, degli Elenchi sofistici di Aristotele. La traduzione tende a essere quanto più possibile fedele del testo, che si è cercato di rappresentare con tutte le sue asprezze e le sue difficoltà. Essa cioè non ha sciolto il testo, avendo come scopo la riduzione al minimo del suo pur inevitabile apporto interpretativo. L'idea guida è stata la seguente: costruire un testo tale da far sì che un lettore conoscitore del greco ed esperto dell'usus scribendi di Aristotele sia in grado di immaginare con una certa esattezza il testo greco da cui la traduzione parte. L'annotazione è continua. Ho cercato, cioè, di non eludere alcun problema. E' stata data più importanza al confronto con i commenti analoghi piuttosto che con lavori che si sono concentrati solo con uno o più luoghi del testo: questi ultimi infatti hanno spesso dimostrato di non tenere conto del testo in tutta la sua complessità, risultando così meno importanti per chi sta lavorando a un commento continuo. Si è tenuto conto della tradizione dei commentatori che parte dai greci come l'Anonimo e Pseudo Alessandro (Michele Efesio) e risale con continuità, attraverso un Medioevo ricco di commentatori del nostro testo, fino ai giorni nostri. L'intento del commento infatti è storiografico: ho cercato di comprendere il pensiero di Aristotele, e quindi, più specificamente, il suo concetto di logica, il suo concetto del linguaggio, il suo concetto di conoscenza, il suo concetto di sofista, la sua idea del rapporto fra logica e storia. Sono questi gli aspetti dell'opera a cui si è prestata più attenzione, sia nel commento sia nell'introduzione. Mi è parso utile, infine, proporre un indice dei principali termini greci, capace di aiutare il lettore che voglia confrontarsi criticamente col testo. Gino SORIO Sophistical Elenchoi.
