Le carte segrete di Agostino Richelmy

This dissertation deals with the work of AgostinoRichelmy,author of two poetry anthologies: L’arrotino appassionato, Torino, Einaudi, 1965, and La lettrice di Isasca, Milano, Garzanti, 1986. Starting from the papers kindly provided by the Richelmy family – such as the author’s lyrical notebooks, the lines, the tales, the handwritten or typed articles – we selected, typewrote and introduced the most important and relevant texts belonging to the more complete and homogeneous collections of Richelmy production. We also includedthe recopying of the author’sown revisions to his very same lines. Moreover, in this work there are Richelmy’sboth lyrical and narrative collaborations with two journals: «Botteghe oscure» and «Paragone Letteratura». For the first time ever we could expand the scenery of Richelmy’s lyrical production, up to now limited to two anthologies published once he was in his old age, thus allowing us to enjoy also his early age (since 1914) and maturity (end of 1920s and 1940-50s) writings. One chapter of the present work is entirely dedicated to Agostino Richelmy as translator of Latin and French poems into Italian. Thanks to the comparison between the original text and some other authors’ versions, Rickelmy’s translations enable us to discover the distinctive features of his own style and language. We hereby also introduced the articles by Richelmy published in the “Mondo Nuovo” and “Stampa sera” newspapers from 1947 up to 1976. All these articles constitute a massive amount of writing, in which we can find, but expanded, suggestions and themes that already were subject of his earlier lyrical production. Eventually, we typewrote some memories from the poet’s personal travel diaries: Richelmy used to bring with himself these notebookswhere he fixed his impressions andpoetical ideas, and where he notedinteresting entries on the places visited and the people met.

Questo lavoro si concentra sulle carte inedite di Agostino Richelmy, autore di due raccolte poetiche: L’arrotino appassionato, Torino, Einaudi, 1965 e La lettrice di Isasca, Milano, Garzanti, 1986. A partire dai materiali messi a disposizione dalla famiglia Richelmy (quaderni di versi, racconti e articoli manoscritti e dattiloscritti…), sono stati selezionati, trascritti (riportando anche le correzioni d’autore) e presentati i testi più significativi e appartenenti alle raccolte più organiche e unitarie. Sono qui raccolti, inoltre, i contributi dell’autore – liriche e racconti – alle riviste «Botteghe oscure» e «Paragone Letteratura». Per la prima volta si è potuto, pertanto, allargare il panorama della produzione in versi di Richelmy, fino a questo momento limitato alle due raccolte pubblicate in età avanzata, offrendone un campione sia dagli anni della giovinezza (a partire dal 1914) che della maturità (fine anni Venti, anni Quaranta e Cinquanta). Un capitolo della trattazione, inoltre, è riservato al lavoro di Richelmy come traduttore dal latino e dal francese, al fine di analizzare – nel confronto con gli originali o con traduzioni di altri autori – le caratteristiche del suo stile e del suo linguaggio. In questo mio lavoro presento anche gli articoli richelmiani apparsi nei quotidiani “Mondo Nuovo” e “Stampa sera” dal 1947 al 1976; si tratta di una ponderosa mole di scritti nei quali Richelmy spesso riprende e sviluppa gli stessi motivi che si ritrovano nelle sue poesie. Infine si sono trascritti alcuni ricordi provenienti da tre taccuini di viaggio del poeta: dei veri e propri diari che Richelmy soleva portare sempre con sé e nei quali annotava impressioni, spunti poetici, informazioni sui luoghi visitati e sulle persone incontrate o conosciute.
