The essay analyzes the carmina minora and the poetic fragments by Ferreto Ferreti of Vicenza (d. 1337) in the context of early fourteenth- century humanism in the Veneto region, and especially in relation to the poetry of Albertino Mussato (1262-1329), the most influential figure within this intellectual environment and the main model for Ferreto’s latinity. Ferreto’s “minor poems” are considered with particular attention paid to their classical models, which for the most part are renowned Latin poets, such as Vergil, Lucan, Statius, and above all Ovid. The Appendix presents the first critical edition of a nuptial poem by Ferreto, transmitted by MS Verona, Biblioteca capitolare, CCLXVII (242).
