The essay investigates the link between the role of the President of the Republic and the form of autonomic government, both in the constitutional text and in the institutional experience. Abstractly, the presidential powers that could be exercised to protect territorial autonomy can be identified. The reasons for a certain underestimation of this Head of State’s role are also investigated.
