Of the 400,000 children estimated to be taken into care by the welfare system, it seems that about 10% concerns reports of active violence and abuse that need intervention in the area of protection, for problems clearly related to their safety. What approach to assessment and planning is proposed to the 90% of children and families who come to the services for problems related to vulnerability, neglect, poverty and social disadvantage and who need a paradigm of participatory and preventive intervention? The article intends to present an approach to the assessment of family situations that focuses not only on the assessment of parenting skills, but on the ecosystemic analysis of children’s needs.

Abstract

Of the 400,000 children estimated to be taken into care by the welfare system, it seems that about 10% concerns reports of active violence and abuse that need intervention in the area of protection, for problems clearly related to their safety. What approach to assessment and planning is proposed to the 90% of children and families who come to the services for problems related to vulnerability, neglect, poverty and social disadvantage and who need a paradigm of participatory and preventive intervention? The article intends to present an approach to the assessment of family situations that focuses not only on the assessment of parenting skills, but on the ecosystemic analysis of children’s needs.
