The late 15th-century Polish translation of Johannes de Hildesheim's Historia Trium Regum is the only one of the texts handed down from a later 1544 codex that has remained manuscript to this day. This is also because of not a few unintelligible places in a translation that is literal but nevertheless interesting for historical lexicology, even though it can be a source of misunderstanding. In this study I will show how a supposed hapax legomenon of the Old Polish language, which is read in the Historia, is actually the result of a copying error by the copyist of the Latin text. On the basis of this error it is also possible to demonstrate the existence of a well-characterized branch of the transmission of the Latin text.
