The role of binaries in the structural evolution of star clusters and dwarf galaxies has been deeply analyzed by both referencing previous astrophysical works on the subject and performing computational simulations to provide new perspectives and issues to discuss, with special focus on their causing the inflation of the observed velocity dispersion of such systems. Through the state-of-the-art N-body code PeTar, binary stars have been recognized as a valuable explanation for the discrepancy between the dynamical and the photometric mass of open clusters embedded in an external tidal field, while by means of a parametric study they have been identified as an alternative or, at least, complementary scenario to the most accredited predominance of dark matter in the faintest Milky Way satellites.
