This contribution provides a summary of the preliminary results of characterisation of textiles remains recently exca- vated in the Osteria and Poggio Mengarelli cemeteries of Vulci. Among the discoveries are linen textiles woven in spliced thread, a technology only recently identified in Iron Age textiles of Italy. Among the Orientalising period finds, fine twills are common, including an exceptional find preserving a checked pattern in white and red colour, the latter achieved by dying with wild madder. From Hellenistic period, there are several weft-faced tabbies. The Vulci finds are discussed in the context of broader developments of textile technologies within Etruria and more broadly across Europe.
