This article intends to analyze some female iconographies related to music in view of the treatises and theorizations that in the Renaissance considered the relationship between upper class girls, mu- sical instruments and singing. Initially the article mentions some manuals written to guide the education and training of young girls, and after that it will consider some groups of paintings depicting young ladies playing: mainly examples of Mary Magdalene playing, allegories or portraits
