The creation and management of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to mitigate hydraulic risk require the collaboration of various stakeholders in the decision and management process. As in many other cooperative processes, the successful implementation of NBS necessitates the promotion of commoner confidence and cooperation. Additionally, the shared vision between commoners and technicians is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating communication and fostering synergistic action. Previous studies on hydrologic risk assessment in the Veneto Region have highlighted a general lack of awareness and acceptance of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) among the population. This paper explores the awareness of the population regarding hydraulic risks, encompassing the risk of floods, droughts, and water pollution. It also examines the correlation between the emphasis placed by mass media and the awareness of different forms of risk in the absence of an official information campaign. Results from two parallel surveys conducted in Veneto, Italy, indicate that both commoners and technicians may have incomplete risk perception and knowledge regarding Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). Additionally, these perceptions seem to be susceptible to media influence, raising concerns about the potential for synergistic cooperation among stakeholders in the context of risk mitigation.
