This contribution focuses on the principle of loyal cooperation as a key element in ensuring the unity of the European Union. It is argued that the principle is based on a shared understanding of the common interests of the EU and its member States and that it plays a crucial role in resolving the various crises facing the EU. The text then examines the complementarity between loyal cooperation and solidarity. Solidarity is a value that supports the political and social objectives of the EU, while loyal cooperation is the practical means by which these objectives are pursued. The article goes on todiscuss how the principles of loyal cooperation and solidarity can be applied in various areas, such as energy policy, competition policy related to the protection of common values, and external relations. Ultimately, this contribution highlights that loyal cooperation is a core element in promoting a shared vision of the EU’s future.
