BACKGROUND Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a heterogeneous group of aggressive malignancies arising from the biliary tree. Epidemiological data show an increase in the in cidence of intrahepatic CCA in Western countries and a stable or decrease in the incidence of extrahepatic CCA.
