Abstract: The canzone 135 of the Rerum vulgarium fragmenta, also known as the canzone “dei prodigi” (wonders) or “delle meraviglie” (marvels), enjoyed notable success during the Renaissance. The essay examines fourteen imitations of the text, composed between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries: it first analyzes their metrical features, always considering their relationship with syntax and with the rhetorical-argumentative construction of the stanza. The analysis distinguishes the different imitative strategies employed at the metrical level and thus allows for a reflection on the ways in which the Petrarchan interpretation of the canzone form was received during the period in question.
