A study on the analysis of the soil workability in the Veneto Region (Italy) was carried out. In particular, workability indexes, principally for cohesive soil, based on the soil water tension have been characterized. in collaboration with the Meteorological Centre of Teolo (Veneto Region) a procedure, called AgriGIS, has been implemented for the automatic estimation of the soil workability and the territorial individuation of susceptibility level to soil tillage techniques. DSSAT v3 model was adopted for the soil water balance simulation. This model can be inferfaced with other software, such as those ones for the data spatialisation of for mapping. The soil workability analysis can be performed both in historical and real time key, according to the kind of weather data used (historical or real time data). This study has shown the possibility of applying the AgriGIS procedure for spreading technical information, possibly in map form, for scheduling and choosing the most suitable soil tillage techniques. These information can be populatised to the farmers or contractors in the agrometerological bulletins.
