A new species of mealybug, Balanococcus kwoni n. sp., collected off bamboo, is described and illustrated. The new species was previously misidentified as Palmicultor lumpurensis (Takahashi), a pest of bamboo in several geographic regions (Asia, Australia and USA). Information on the distribution and host plants of the two species is provided.
