This study deals with the design of domestic refrigerator compressors for noise and vibration control. The shell which encloses the compressor is simulated with the FE method by means of the IDEAS code. Two different kinds of excitations are considered: the force transmitted by the discharge pipe and the forces transmitted by the suspension springs. The forced shell response is evaluated and the surface velocities are used to calculate sound power. Results show the influence of design parameters both on shell vibration and on noise emission.

Abstract

This study deals with the design of domestic refrigerator compressors for noise and vibration control. The shell which encloses the compressor is simulated with the FE method by means of the IDEAS code. Two different kinds of excitations are considered: the force transmitted by the discharge pipe and the forces transmitted by the suspension springs. The forced shell response is evaluated and the surface velocities are used to calculate sound power. Results show the influence of design parameters both on shell vibration and on noise emission.
