Among the other branches of mathematics, geometry is the one which possesses the greatest power to attract pupils and citizens. This is mainly due to its potentiality to involve different “communication channels” at the same time: visual (and tactile), intellectual and… emotional. Furthermore, geometry is probably the only field in which a student/enthusiast of mathematics can happen to contribute; the discovery of the Exeter point in 1986 by a group of students is a clear example of this.

Abstract

Among the other branches of mathematics, geometry is the one which possesses the greatest power to attract pupils and citizens. This is mainly due to its potentiality to involve different “communication channels” at the same time: visual (and tactile), intellectual and… emotional. Furthermore, geometry is probably the only field in which a student/enthusiast of mathematics can happen to contribute; the discovery of the Exeter point in 1986 by a group of students is a clear example of this.
