This study examines different forms of representation urban violence through an analytical reading of the works of two contemporary Brazilian authors: Rubem Fonseca and Paulo Lins. The city, particularly Rio de Janeiro, is read through the bias of the plots it engenders, based on urban marginality, sex and bestial violence networks, and a critical discourse that indicates and condemns the crisis of the values of post-modern societies, depersonalizing and massified. While in the accounts of Fonseca the representation of urban violence assumes rhizomatic and undifferentiated characteristics, dissolving the boundaries between the spaces where the rich and the poor circulate, in the novel City of God by Paulo Lins, this representation is made from the interior of the entire favela, i.e. the residential complex ‘City of God’, indicating a clear territory division, marked by an official and a marginal city, which points to a defect in the unequal distribution of rights between the population and the spaces of the city.
