Abstract

Archaeological excavations in Aquileia carried out in the site of the insula of the Wounded beasts and in the nearby areas have produced an articulated palimpsest attributable to Roman residential buildings, water drainage systems and urban roads. The detailed survey of the structures combined with the georeferencing of 19th-20th c. archive plans within a coherent topographical system shed a new light on the planimetric conformation and on the internal spatial distribution of one of the northern quarters of the ancient city.
