LA GRANDE GUERRA, IL FASCISMO E LA CARTA DI ATENE: DIFFICOLTÀ DEL PERCORSO ITALIANO THE GREAT WAR, FASCISM AND THE ATHENS CHARTER: DIFFICULTY OF THE ITALIAN ROUTE

La Carta di Atene, uscita dall’omonima conferenza del 1931, costituisce uno snodo vitale per il concrescere, in Europa, di una politica condivisa sul restauro e, a ricaduta, sulla tutela tout court. Non a caso si può parlare di snodo, poiché si tratta di un documento il cui pregresso – nella teoria e nella prassi – è estremamente denso di sperimentazioni e il cui futuro sarà reso oscuro dalla tragedia della Seconda guerra mondiale. Proprio per questo non è inutile riflettere su alcune ombre che caratterizzano il contributo italiano ai lavori, originate dall’adeguamento del bisogno di coesione morale e sociale sollecitato dalla Grande Guerra, alle insorgenti necessità identitarie del fascismo. // The Athens Charter, which came out of the 1931 Conference, constitutes a vital hub for the growth of a shared European policy on restoration and monuments’ protection. It is a document whose background is extremely dense with experimentation and whose immediate future will be swallowed up by the tragedy of the Second World War. Precisely for this reason it is not useless to consider some shadows that characterize the Italian contribution to the works, resulted from the readjustment of the need of social and moral cohesiveness, emerging from the Great War, as a function of the construction of a fascist identity.
