Tra Venezia, Ferrara e altre città. Intrecci amorosi sulla scena urbana del primo Cinquecento

If Venice is the main context where the clandestine lovers, Maria Savorgnan and Pietro Bembo, meet furtively over a year and a half between 1500 and 1501, their affair also involves other cities: Udine, Padua, Ferrara. Family choices and networks, wealth legacies and living habits came into play, hardly circumscribed to a single town, but rather spanning over a broader scenario. Starting from Venice with its secluded and safe meeting places, the paper shifts its focus to the Terraferma, as well as to a close yet different city such as Ferrara, where the relationship between Ludovico Ariosto and Alessandra Benucci took shape more or less in the same years. The two parallel love affairs offer the cue for some considerations on the culture of living between the countryside and the city, as well as on the intra- and inter-urban mobility of early modern women and men.
