La coltivazione del tabacco a Valstagna. Economia, Paesaggi e Infrastrutture

The essay reconstructs the origins and developments of tobacco cultivation in the lower Brenta valley, analyzing, in particular, its relations with the territory and the social and economic dynamics that shaped in Early Modern and Modern Ages. It highlights how tobacco profitably entered the local economy integrating the income from the traditional intermediation trade between the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, the Veneto plain and Venice. Finally, it describes the effects of the expansion of tobacco growing on the territory as well as those of its crisis and disappearance close to the seventies of the last century.
