Foods and feeds suspected to be genetically modified can be detected by the application of Polymerase Chain Reaction. Also those samples which have been treated with very high temperature can be identified. The analytical method of DNA extraction adopted by Helvetic Confederation Authority was employed in this study to test 231 different kinds of products such as: raw materials and foods for human consumption; different kinds of feeds, mainly unifeed; seeding maize. Only feeds containing soybean were positively identified for promoter sequence 35S; in a few samples the content of GMO was determined by real time technique: it varied between 0.37 and 11.32%. In some kinds of the tested samples a different extraction method was employed to overcome problems of DNA amplification
